Robert G. Allen, author of the “Noth­ing Down..” meth­ods of buy­ing Real Estate has authored sev­eral use­ful books about cre­at­ing alter­na­tive sources of income.  One of my favorite of his books is called:

Mul­ti­ple Streams of Inter­net Income: How Ordi­nary Peo­ple Make Extra­or­di­nary Money Online, 2nd Edition

High­lights from the book include:

12 Prin­ci­ples of Per­sua­sion
The author defines an intrigu­ing con­cept called 12 prin­ci­ples of per­sua­sion, and, of these, the top 3 prin­ci­ples to “super­charge” what you have to sell — either offline or online.  If you include these prin­ci­ples in your mar­ket­ing cam­paigns, it should lead to suc­cess in the marketplace.

Opti­miz­ing Your Web­site for Users Search­ing for Infor­ma­tion You Offer
This book offers tips for opti­miz­ing your web­site for pop­u­lar search engines and some help­ful search engine ref­er­ence sites to under­stand what search engines are look­ing for in a web­site.  It also describes how Ken Evoy’s site (www.sitesell.com) makes is pos­si­ble to do your search engine opti­miza­tion and web­site con­struc­tion all in one pack­age — for a nom­i­nal price.  The author also reviews six strate­gies for dri­ving traf­fic to your web­site with prac­ti­cal exam­ples of how to ini­ti­ate and main­tain these strate­gies.

How to Make Money Sell­ing “Spe­cial Reports“
Allen also dis­cusses the con­cept of cre­at­ing “Spe­cial Reports” that could poten­tially be a great source of non-job rev­enue.   He ref­er­ences a book by Dr. Jef­frey Lant called:

How to Make a Whole Lot More Than 1,000,000 Writ­ing, Com­mis­sion­ing, Pub­lish­ing, and Sell­ing How to Information

that dis­cusses the process of five-page spe­cial books and spe­cial reports.  Cus­tomers tend to buy more than one of these spe­cial reports because of their inex­pen­sive price as well.  Addi­tion­ally, I believe these reports are suc­cess­ful because peo­ple are look­ing to solve a par­tic­u­lar task (right now!) and are will­ing to spend a small amount of money to solve that prob­lem immediately.

How Ezines can Help You Pro­mote Your Prod­ucts or Ser­vices
This book delves into what ezines are and how they can help pub­li­cize prod­ucts or con­tent you want to sell.   The author also includes web­site list­ings of direc­to­ries of ezines to help you match your prod­uct or ser­vice with the right ezine audi­ence that will be recep­tive to buy what you have to offer.

Giv­ing Away Free­bies to Attract Cus­tomers
It’s an old method to attract­ing cus­tomers.  Give them a free sam­ple to 1) get them to trust what you have to say and 2) give you the time to say it to them.  This book offers quite a few exam­ples of free prod­ucts that you can offer to incen­tivize folks to become your customers.

Ways to Cre­ate Streams of Income
Allen reviews 6 ways to cre­ate streams of income and explains each one in a sep­a­rate chap­ter of the book.  Although you have prob­a­bly heard of these streams — such as affil­i­ate mar­ket­ing — he goes into detail about the advan­tages and dis­ad­van­tages of each in a way you will not find on web­sites that tout their wares.  He also makes sev­eral ref­er­ences to links that should be use­ful to you as you build up your income streams.
