Pat O’Bryan’s book, “Your Portable Empire: How to Make Money Anywhere While Doing What You Love” introduced me to the concept of making/generating income — potentially generous amounts of income –from producing “intellectual property”.   The author explains that nearly anyone can produce intellectual property or products worthy of sale.

O’Bryan was a former musician who was eking out an unhappy living before discovering the secrets he reveals in this book.  He describes how he transition from being a “broke blues guitar player” to a “rich Internet marketer”.

What does rich mean?  Like Timothy Ferriss, the author says that you can be rich in many ways:

  • rich in money
  • rich in freedom
  • rich in possibilities

To give you a taste of how to produce a product you can sell, O’Bryan says: “find a problem a lot of people have, solve it, and tell them the solution.”  He also says that you can “learn how to build a business that you can from any place you can find Internet access.”  In the book, he gives advice about making this dream a reality:

  • How to build a large list of responsive buyers
  • How to communicate with them
  • How to acquire and/or create products for them
  • How to automate your business to spend more time enjoying life

Pat O’Bryan is clear that you don’t have to stop what you are doing to create your Portable Empire.  No matter your situation — in a job, running a business, homemaker — or homeless — if you can find an hour or two a day and a computer with Internet access, you’ve got everything you need to succeed.

The book goes into details about selecting your niche and insists that must be about which you are passionate — such as playing golf, watching good movies, or raising parakeets!   Within that area about which you are passionate:

  • discover common problems people struggle with
  • solve it or find someone who can and interview them

Build a relationship with your customers and sell to them.   Some of the technologies that you can leverage to build  this relationship include:

His book also includes:

  • several interviews with prominent experts who have implemented the ideas he illustrates
  • excellent copywriting techniques
  • a lot of good information about eBooks, their benefits, and how to create content for them for less than $100
  • entertaining stories about his success

I really believe you will enjoy the book and get as much out of it as I did!  You can get at a discount at Amazon.com today.
