Writing Content that Gets Attention Makes Money — Part 2

Writing that Gets Attention

In Writing Content that Gets Attention and Makes Money – Part 1, I discussed the first 6 steps that Yanik Silver recommends for writing web copy that gets attention.  I would like to continue now with the last 6 of the 12 steps he recommends for good content as discussed in a chapter called “Writing Copy that Sells” in the book Success Secrets of the Online Marketing Superstars by Mitch Meyerson.

7.  What’s the Catch? Customers may be skeptical because the price for the product you offer is too low for the claims you give for it.  However, you can allay their fears/doubts by saying that because your product is electronic, you don’t have to pay inventory or fulfillment costs.  You also can give customers your contact information so that they know you are a real person rather than a nameless entity pushing a scam.

8.  Create “Greed Desire” - Ronco has been doing this for years.  “Pile on” bonuses to make your product irresistible and make them eager to buy.

9.  Unconditional Guarantee — This helps eliminate buyers’ fears that you are going to rip them off.  Because you are already giving them an e-product (that you can’t take back) they will already be able to keep it anyway, so there are no disadvantages to having this guarantee and the great advantage of encouraging the sale.  Yanik gives a great guarantee like “if my product doesn’t give you at least 100 times your investment, I’ll refund your money, no hassle, no questions.”  Wal-Mart has been doing this for years — see how well their sales do?

10.  Demand Immediate Action — Incorporate a time deadline like “special bonus offer ends on Date X” .  This follows the scarcity and urgency principles pointed out by Robert Allen that I discussed in a previous article called 12 Ways to Persuade People to Buy From You.

11.  Tell Reader What to Do Next — Lead the reader by the hand to do what you want.  Here’s an example: “Click Here” to get started right away or “order now”.

12.  The Power P.S. — This either stresses the benefits of your products or gives your reader another chance to buy your product.
