I have previously written about a marvelous book called Success Secrets of the Online Marketing Superstars by Mitch Meyerson. Here are some of my previous articles mentioning this book:

Mitch has another great chapter called “Advanced Traffic Strategies” written by Dearl Miller. Dearl Miller is a co-author of Web Traffic All-Stars 2009: How 11 Of The World’s Best Web Marketers Get Traffic Now, editor of Trafficology.com, and an expert in transforming money-losing sites into profitable ones.
Here is his Number One tip for sending more traffic to your site — OPTIMIZE YOUR KEYWORDS.
Think about your customers’ needs and use a tool like Google’s keyword tool to find keywords that address your customer needs yet have less competition. You can test out the keywords you choose with an Adword campaign to see the response you get. Dearl stresses figuring out the 20–30 of the best keywords and making sure your site emphasizes them, but don’t overdo it. Just put the keywords in naturally in the titles, articles, tags, and other navigational aids like menus and categories. Dearl says you can’t rely on tricks to get search engines to rank you higher because:
- Each search engine has a different way of ranking the same pages
- They keep your ranking methods secret and don’t want you to know
Do:
- Have unique titles for every page on your site
- Each title should describe a benefit and how you fulfill what they need
- Put keywords in your titles, but don’t duplicate them
- Put keywords in <H1> and <H2> (larger font) text
- If possible, get a domain name with your keywords embedded in them
- Put keywords in links in your text
- Put keywords in your text and make a few of the bold
- Put keywords near top and bottom of your pages
- Put keywords in the ALT tag of your images
- Put keywords in the TITLE attribute of anchor links
Do NOT:
- Report keywords over and over
- Hide keywords
- Use frames
- Use too much Flash or Javascript
- Put words in your images
In future articles, I will talk more about Dearl Miller’s other techniques for drawing traffic to your site to make money.
